Multi-Disciplinary Team Response

 

The Center for Safe & Healthy Children uses a Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) approach to focus on the well-being of the child victim and their family.

Our MDT consists of Hancock County Children Services, Findlay Police Department, Hancock County Sheriff's Office, Blanchard Valley Hospital, Family Resource Center, Prosecutor's Office, Victim's Assistance, Findlay City Schools, and The Center.

Forensic Interview

​

A forensic interview is a structured conversation between a child and a specially trained professional that takes place in a private, safe environment.

The purpose of a forensic interview is to obtain information from the child victim that may be helpful in a criminal investigation; to assess the safety of the child's living arrangements; to obtain information that will either corroborate or refute abuse allegations or suspicions; and to assess the need for medical treatment and psychological care.

Members of the MDT can watch the interviews through closed-circuit television.  This minimizes trauma by reducing the number of times a child victim has to be interviewed.

Medical Exam

The purpose of a medical exam is to help ensure the health, safety, and well-being of the child as well as to diagnose, document, and address any medical conditions resulting from the abuse.

The Center provides a monthly medical clinical with Dr. Randall Schlievert, a board-certified pediatrician in child abuse.  He uses state-of-the art equipment to conduct non-acute exams to document abuse.

Victim Advocacy

 

While at The Center, the child and their family will meet with a Family Advocate who will ensure that all their needs are met and questions answered.  The Family Advocate will also make sure that all referrals are completed and will remain in contact with the child and family once they leave The Center.

Mental Health

 

Not all child victims may need it, but counseling can help the child and family during this difficult time.

At The Center, every family is offered a free trauma assessment which ensures a child feels safe and leaves in a more positive place.  After this assessment, the family is then referred to a mental health provider for continuing care.
